How to Spend a Day in Toyosu and Tsukiji: Market Food, Art, and a Relaxing Bath

Toyosu Market and the Tsukiji Outer Market are two very different places to enjoy food in Tokyo. Toyosu is a wholesale market with visitor routes and restaurants, while Tsukiji is a lively district of shops and eateries. You can visit both in one day, but their schedules are not the same, and some Toyosu restaurants close before the visitor route does.

This guide offers a flexible itinerary that combines the markets with teamLab Planets, Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai, and Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club. You do not need to visit every stop: choose the places that matter most to you and check each official website before setting out.

Opening days, hours, prices, ticket availability, and admission rules can change. Confirm the latest details with each facility before your visit. This is a planning guide based on official information, not a firsthand review.

Check market days and opening hours first

Toyosu Market is open to visitors on market business days. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government lists the visitor route, including the food and retail areas, as open from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The PR corner generally opens from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with shorter hours on Saturdays. Individual shops may close earlier than the visitor route, so check restaurant and shop hours separately. The intermediate wholesale area is for business buyers; general visitors cannot shop there.

Check the Toyosu Market calendar before choosing a date. The visitor route and most market facilities are closed on market holidays. The market’s official site also has an English visitor pamphlet.

The Tsukiji Outer Market has its own calendar and shop schedules. Some shops close on Sundays, public holidays, or market holidays, while others open. The official Tsukiji FAQ recommends visiting around 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for general visitors. If you have a particular restaurant or shop in mind, check its own schedule too.

A flexible one-day itinerary

Visiting both markets, teamLab, and a bathing facility makes for a full day. The times below are examples, not a fixed schedule. Pick two or three main stops, and book a timed teamLab ticket first if you plan to go.

Approximate timeStopWhat to do
Around 9:00 a.m.Toyosu MarketWalk the visitor route and see the market displays. If you want breakfast, check which restaurants are open first.
Around 11:00 a.m.Tsukiji Outer MarketBrowse the food shops, have lunch, and explore at a relaxed pace. General visitors are encouraged to come after 9:00 a.m. so market buyers can work.
Around 2:00–3:00 p.m.Return to ToyosuLeave enough time for transit and crowds before a timed teamLab entry.
AfternoonteamLab Planets TOKYO DMM (optional)Visit at your booked time. Skip it if you would rather spend longer at the markets.
EveningToyosu Senkyaku Banrai and Tokyo Toyosu Manyo ClubHave a meal or browse the shops, then visit Manyo Club if you want to bathe and relax.

Toyosu Market restaurants do not necessarily stay open until the visitor route closes. If breakfast at the market is important, choose a restaurant first and plan your arrival around its hours. If you want lunch in Tsukiji, keep your Toyosu visit focused on the visitor route and displays.

teamLab uses timed tickets. Allow a buffer for travel between Toyosu and Tsukiji and for crowds, and avoid booking an entry time that leaves no room for delays. Check the official guide for ticket and entry details.

Short on time? Choose one area

You can enjoy either Toyosu or Tsukiji on its own; there is no need to squeeze both into one day.

Toyosu-focused plan: market, art, and bathing

Walk through Toyosu Market, visit teamLab at your reserved time, and then head to Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai for food and shopping. If you want more time to unwind, continue to Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club. These stops are all in the Toyosu area, so you can skip the trip to Tsukiji.

Tsukiji-focused plan: food and nearby walks

Spend the morning eating and shopping at Tsukiji Outer Market, then walk toward Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple or Ginza. Visit early enough to enjoy the market while shops are open, and move to another neighborhood later in the day. For restaurant ideas, see our Japanese-language Tsukiji food guide; check current shop hours and menus before you go.

Toyosu Market: see the market from the visitor route

Toyosu Market has public visitor routes, a PR corner, and food and retail areas. From the route, you can look into parts of the working market and learn more from the displays. Visitors enter from designated points on the pedestrian deck, which connects to Shijo-mae Station on the Yurikamome Line.

The visitor route is listed as open from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The PR corner and shops have different hours; the PR corner generally closes earlier, and some shops close before the route. Check the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s visitor information and the Toyosu Gurume restaurant listings if you plan to eat there. Eating and drinking on the market’s corridors and benches is not allowed; follow each shop’s instructions.

Tsukiji Outer Market: browse with a plan

Tsukiji Outer Market has sushi, sashimi rice bowls, Japanese set meals, cafés, and many specialty food shops. Its narrow lanes can get crowded, so decide what you want to eat and keep moving space clear for shoppers and people working in the market.

The market’s visitor guidance asks guests to give buyers priority before 9:00 a.m., eat inside a shop or in a designated area rather than while walking, and ask before taking photos inside a shop. Keep groups small, avoid blocking shop entrances, and do not touch food on display. These simple courtesies help keep the market comfortable for everyone.

teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM: plan around your ticket time

If you want to add an art experience to your Toyosu day, consider teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM. Admission requires a ticket, and hours and availability can vary by date. Check the official ticket store and visitor guide before booking.

The venue is about a one-minute walk from Shin-Toyosu Station and about a five-minute walk from Shijo-mae Station and Toyosu Market, according to the official access guide. Allow extra time if you are coming from Tsukiji. Review the visitor guide for entry procedures and other practical details before your visit.

Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai: food, shops, and a free footbath

Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai is a shopping and dining complex next to Toyosu Market. It has restaurants, souvenir shops, and an eighth-floor footbath garden. According to the official FAQ, the shops and the eighth-floor footbath garden do not charge an admission fee. The complex is generally open even on Toyosu Market holidays, although maintenance, weather, or other special circumstances can lead to closure. Check the official notices before visiting.

The Tsukiji wholesale market moved to Toyosu, but Tsukiji Outer Market remains in Tsukiji. Toyosu Market is the wholesale market; Senkyaku Banrai is a separate commercial complex beside it.

Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club: bathe and relax after sightseeing

Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club is a day-use bathing and relaxation facility within the Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai complex. It has large public baths, relaxation areas, and an observation footbath garden. The facility operates 24 hours, but the large public bath is closed for cleaning from 3:00 to 5:00 a.m. Day-use visitors do not need to book in advance according to the official FAQ, but admission charges and late-night fees depend on the time of your visit. Check the official FAQ and price information for current details and temporary closures.

The facility has specific admission rules, including rules about tattoos, children, and access to the baths. If any rule may apply to you, review the latest official FAQ before visiting rather than relying on general descriptions.

Practical tips for visiting Toyosu and Tsukiji

Check market holidays and individual shop hours

Toyosu Market and Tsukiji Outer Market do not share one schedule, and not every shop is open on the same day. Toyosu restaurants and stores may close before the visitor route. Choose your must-see places first and confirm their official hours.

Give market workers and other visitors room

Tsukiji is a working market as well as a visitor destination. Avoid eating while walking, blocking narrow lanes, or stopping for a long time in front of shops. Follow each shop’s rules for photos and food displays.

Check bathing rules before visiting

Admission rules differ by facility. At Manyo Club, the official FAQ describes specific policies for tattoos and bath use. Check any rules relevant to your visit, including age requirements, before you go.

Work backward from a teamLab entry time

If you include teamLab, book your entry time first, then plan the markets and meals around it. Leave room for transit delays and crowds rather than scheduling each stop back-to-back.

Choose the day that suits your priorities

Toyosu Market is best for seeing a wholesale market from its public visitor route and finding restaurants in the market complex. Tsukiji Outer Market is a place to browse food shops and eateries. Add teamLab for an art experience, or spend the evening eating, shopping, and bathing around Senkyaku Banrai and Manyo Club.

Trying to do everything can make for a long day. Decide whether you care most about both markets, the art experience, or a slower evening, then build the route around the market calendar and any ticket reservations.
